Parenting - Dr. Heins

Since 1989 Dr. Marilyn Heins, former professor of pediatrics, has shared her common sense parenting strategies (designed for today's busy parents) as the parenting columnist for the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson.

A Common Sense Approach to Parenting

ParenTips provides busy parents with commonsense advice, skills and strategies for everyday parenting. These skills and strategies WORK, not every time with every child, but often enough so you will see a difference in your child's behavior. You will feel happiness and a deserved increase in parental pride; you're getting it right!

Lectures & Workshops

When Marilyn speaks in the community, it's Standing Room Only. She speaks her mind and tackles controversial topics. She's tried out her advice on a second generation and it still works. It works because her advice is simple to follow and simple to remember.

WebParenTips E-mail Newsletter

ParenTips are parenting strategies that WORK! Designed for busy parents, each WebParenTip is a brief, informative article on a topic of interest to parents today. The archives are available.

ParenTips, the book

Instead of traditional book chapters my new book contains 46 ParenTips. Each ParenTip lists WHAT TO DO AND WHAT NOT TO DO right up front followed by the text. If the Parentip makes sense a busy parent can stop reading then and there. Need more information? Keep reading? Still curious? The book has an annotated bibliography for further reading.

Meet Dr. Heins

Dr. Heins has written over 500 parenting columns published in the Arizona Daily Star. The column originally appeared in 1989 in the Food and More section, however the Star found reader response so strong that it moved the column to the Sunday Accent section, with its larger circulation. The column is often listed in the newspaper's front section as one of the highlights of the Sunday paper.
